Leadership with the Vigo County Fair say preparations for the event begin as soon as a year in advance.
According to Mike Morris, the president of the Wabash Valley Fair Association, the 90th annual Vigo County Fair has potential to be the biggest and best in its history.
“If we have good weather, i think we’re going to have the best fair ever. We had a great one last year, we had more attendance than we’ve ever had,” Morris said.
Friday, food vendors and other attractions began to fill the fairgrounds.
Morris says throughout the week long event there will be fun for all ages.
“We have racing in the middle of the week, we have the livestock, we have the demolition derby,” Morris said.
The fair will also have a carnival operated by Drew Exposition.
Beginning last Sunday, crews began setting up rides on the fairgrounds, leading to an inspection by the state of Indiana on Wednesday.
Mike Neighbors with Drew Exposition says on Friday their job is to continue to make sure all rides are both safe and fun before gates open on Saturday.
“They’ll be fine tuning everything because opening is tomorrow so we’ll be doing an inspection today, walking through everything, test running everything,” Neighbors said.
Neighbors says so far they have had no issues or delays with set up before the fair and he believes the fair’s location plays a big part in that.
“Being right on 41, it’s easy to get the parts delivered and get the things that you need. So, the area is very nice for maintaining and getting your hands on the stuff that you need do the job that you’ve got at hand,” Neighbors said.
The Vigo County Fair will begin Saturday with opening ceremonies at noon.
Parking for the fair is free until 4 P.M. After 4, the fee is five dollars per car.
