TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Indiana State University awarded 496 undergraduate students their diplomas at its 2021 Winter Commencement Ceremony at the Hulman Center on Saturday.
New graduate Caleb Hamilton said that the years of hard work put in to earn his degree made this moment even more special.
“The feeling on the inside of you doing that was a wonderful feeling,” Hamilton explained. “Seeing everyone around you and the friends that you went to college with them graduating as well is a true blessing.”
This graduating class had many hurdles including having to navigate a global pandemic. Graduate Stanley Vischak said the pandemic delayed his graduation, but it gave him time to plan out his future.
“The whole pandemic made things more challenging,” Vischak said. “It delayed my graduation by a semester but it gave me more time to just think about what I wanted to do.”
These graduates are taking their first steps into the post-grad world. Vischak explained that although he’s ready for the future, he’s also ready to celebrate with family and friends.
“I’m just excited to celebrate with the family, get the diploma and move on to the next step,” Vischak said.
