TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — For the first time since 2019, a long-standing annual event hosted by the United Way of the Wabash Valley will return to in-person.
‘Power of the Purse’ will be on Oct 27, from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Terre Haute Convention Center.
“I’m just really excited to be back in person once again and feeling the power of women together in a room and the power of our purses that we can have on early childhood education,” Co-Executive Director of the Wabash Valley, Danielle Isbell said.
The goal is to support early childhood education through the United Way’s ‘Success by 6’ initiative. That program also offers reading programs and ensures children have access to childcare.
Attendees will be able to enjoy food, raffle and auction packages.
In past years, this event has raised anywhere from $20 thousand to $50 thousand dollars, this year, Isbell hopes to raise $50 thousand.
“I think it’s just really important to support our youngsters in the community and just making sure that we’re really preparing them to make sure they succeed in school so they’re not struggling,” she said.
Tickets are $50 and are available online at uwwv.org/purse. You can text ‘purse22’ to 91999 to purchase tickets and make a donation.
