TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– The Wabash Valley Road Runners continued their annual tradition of starting the new year on the right foot.
Just over a dozen people made the trip to Deming Park for their “New Year’s Run,” which took place at noon. Vice President for the group Dave Williams said they were delighted by this year’s weather.
“We show up no matter what the weather is. We did our Christmas Eve run and it was six above zero when we did that one, but we show up for just about anything,” he said. “Today, we’re blessed to have 50 degree weather.”
It wasn’t a race, like the group holds at other points in the year, but something to help people celebrate 2023 with a healthy activity.
“We like to get together with people, like minded individuals, people with health lifestyles, just commiserate with our friends,” Williams said. “There’s no awards, there’s no t-shirts, there’s no bananas at the end, we just get out and have a good time.”
Williams said their next big event will be the awards banquet, coming up in a few weeks. He also said their half-marathon training program is going to get underway soon, and those interested can find more information on their Facebook page.
