TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Taco Luv received attention last week for helping shelter homeless people around Terre Haute as snow rolled the area.
But they didn’t want the support to stop there.
The restaurant is partnering with Reach Services to offer free meals to those in need. The “Spread the Luv” program will be funded by community donations, with all of the proceeds going to food vouchers that will be distributed by Reach Services.
Taco Luv owner Charles Harris said conversations first started on Thursday– and quickly led to the formation of the program.
“We reached to Reach, and we said, ‘We’re hearing this is a huge need in our area, what does this actually look like?’” He said. “There was still a great need, we had no idea how many people in the Wabash Valley were homeless. So we were able to form a partnership with them to continue providing food for people and families in need.”
The donations can be filed out online– and individuals in families in need can contact Reach Services to get a possible voucher. Harris said he’s hoping for good turnout.
“This is a community-driven program,” he said. “This will not be successful without the support of the community so we will do everything we can, and 100% of the sponsorships that come through are going straight to feed the homeless of our community and the veterans and those that are in need.”
Harris pointed to the support the restaurant had received following the storm on Wednesday as the reason he’s confident they can continue to spread the love and make the program a success.
“We’re super excited to be able to take that momentum from the support we’ve gotten from the community,” he said. “We want to continue to feed those struggling with hunger around the Wabash Valley.”
