TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Two years ago, Terre Haute Police Detective, Greg Ferency, was killed in the line of duty.
Ferency served the community for more than 30 years.
On July 7, 2021, Ferency was shot and killed outside the FBI field office in Terre Haute.
In addition to serving on the Terre Haute Police Department, he was also an FBI Task Force Officer.
In his memory, Ferency’s sister, Shelley Klingerman, formed a not for profit called ‘Project Never Broken.’ Project Never Broken was started to honor the life and legacy of Greg Ferency. The organization’s mission is to boldly support law enforcement through hope, help and healing while honoring the resiliency of humanity.
Friday was a celebration of Ferency’s life and legacy.
“We’re doing our 2nd annual celebration of life and legacy for Greg,” Klingerman said. “And yes, today is his end of watch day and it could be very heavy, very said, but we are very much choosing to make it upbeat, happy and celebrating all the stories and memories and things that we all loved about him.”
The event took place at Afterburner Brewing Company from noon until 8:00 PM.
“We have his beer that we partnered, and custom brewed a beer called Nunquam Factum. Which translates to ‘never broken.’ We are selling his book that he released in 2003. We have lots of fun merchandise some of his drawings that he did, we’ve turned them in to shirts. We have an engagement wall where people are sharing stories, memories, their favorite character trait and we’re going to capture all of that, so we get a 360 of his life,” Klingerman said.
She went on to say that just by showing up, it provides an unspoken message to law enforcement and the first responder community, that people do care. And that those who have lost their life, in the line of duty, will never be forgotten.
