TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Fair kicked off this weekend at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds.
There are many exciting things to do at the fair. There is something for people of all ages to enjoy. This can range anywhere from the rides to the food or the animals. Vigo County Fair Queen, Sadie Herring, says her favorite part about the fair is a hidden treasure.
“I would probably have to say the llama and alpaca show. It’s so under appreciated. It’s a very small community, even the barn itself. We don’t actually have a barn for them yet so I just think it would be awesome to see a showing for those kids.”
One of the kids in this community is Mara Pence. This is Mara’s first year in this program and she has fallen in love with her alpaca Bandit.
Mara says what she enjoys most is, “”My favorite part is getting to show Bandit and getting a ribbon for participation.”
The Vigo County 4H program is a very big part of the fair. There are many events and shows across the week that show off the talent and hard work these members have put in all year.
4H member, Katy Snow, explains some of the perks of being in this program.
“I think it’s a great thing to do. There are so many opportunities later in life for scholarships and the community of people you get to know through it is an amazing part of it.”
The downside to this program is that you will eventually have to move on from it. Exiting 4H member, Abby Kane, talks about what she is going to miss most.
“I’m going to miss mainly the animals, but I’ll also miss all the friends I’ve made along the way. The little kids, and the older kids that have taught me.”
This is only the beginning of the fair festivities. There is still a week’s worth of rides, events, and contests that have still yet to come.
The fair will run through the week and finish on Friday.
