TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local boy is looking for some helpers to help make sick children’s Christmas a bit brighter this year.
Owen Farnsworth, 12, and his grandmother spent time last year sewing special tote bags to gift to families in the Union Hospital pediatric unit, and this year he’s hoping to get some help and increase the number of bags that can be handed out.
“This year Santa Owen would like to recruit young Santa’s Helpers from the community,” a news release reads.
According to Owen’s grandmother Patti Farnsworth, Owen has been collecting donations since last year’s effort to purchase the materials and goodies needed for the project.
Those wishing to help out can do so at no cost, as materials and sewing machines are being provided. While no experience in sewing is required to join, the seating is limited, so interested helpers are asked to pre-register. Helpers must be at least 8 years old and have a signed waiver to participate.
Interested helpers can participate in three separate sewing sessions on November 18 at Terre Haute’s Joann Fabrics store. The first session is from 9 a.m. until noon, then 1-4 p.m., and then 5-8 p.m. for the final session.
The finished totes will be delivered to Union Hospital by Owen at a later date. This will reportedly be the third year Owen and his grandmother have delivered totes to kids at the hospital.
