TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Thanks to a great turnout for the Indiana State University men’s basketball game against Drake, more than $10,000 was raised for cancer research.
According to ISU officials, the fifth annual Blackout Cancer game against Drake raised $10,317.14 for the Rich and Robin Porter Cancer Research Center.
“All of us at Indiana State University want to thank everyone for helping fund cancer research at Indiana State’s Rich and Robin Porter Cancer Research Center,” said Dr. Deborah Curtis, President of Indiana State. “This state-of-the-art facility, led by our wonderful faculty, staff, and students is making a remarkable difference, and the support of every individual truly makes an impact. We look forward to continuing this tradition again next year.”
While a portion of ticket sales were automatically donated to the center, fans were also able to donate more through donation buckets around the arena. The funds raised included a $5,000 match from Rich and Robin Porter.
“54% of Americans say they or someone else in their immediate family has been diagnosed with cancer at some point,” Director of Porter Cancer Research Center, Dr. Takuya Akiyama said. “Our aim is to help stamp cancer out completely, thanks to the research carried out at the Center and by Alumni at other institutions.”
ISU officials invite fans back to Hulman Center on February 24 for another fundraising game, this time raising money for the Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis
