TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — 2nd Update: Terre Haute Police have announced the arrest of the man they thought they were surrounding in a search of a garage on Monday.
According to a release from THPD Sgt. Justin Sears, police surrounded the 3rd Avenue residence on Monday due to having received information suggesting that a suspect in a battery incident was inside. Sears said it was believed the suspect was armed with a gun. While police ended up not finding the suspect at that location, Sears said they did locate him at another residence later that day and took him into custody without incident.
Anthony D. McGill, 28, of West Terre Haute was placed under arrest on preliminary charges of aggravated battery. The charge stems from the events of Sunday at 1:40 a.m. when police found a victim having been struck on the left side of his head and complaining of facial pain. While the victim did not know who the assailant was, investigating detectives identified the suspect as McGill.
Sears said the victim initially received treatment at a local hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries the man was then transferred to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment.
The investigation remains open and ongoing, anyone with information is asked to contact investigating detectives at 812-244-2651.
