LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A man who was well-known and loved by the local community will soon be remembered with a memorial bench.
Residents in Linton are planning a project to pay tribute to Leon Fisher — a resident who traveled through the town every day visiting businesses along the way.
“He made his trek every day,” Gayle Margraf, a friend of Fisher’s said. “He knew who to go and visit, and he’d visit for a few minutes, and he’d leave and go to the next business. Everyone in town knew him.”
After his passing, Leon’s friends wanted a way to remember him and thought a bench in front of a local business would be a good idea. Now, money is being collected to put a memorial bench in front of Smitty’s Barbershop on Main Street.
Margraf said that way people can gather and share their memories of Leon.
“He was just one of a kind, I’m telling you,” Margraf said. “But we all knew him and we all loved him. He was really kind of a character that we all came to endear our hearts with, so he’s just one of those guys.”
Margraf said a concrete bench will cost $5,000, but she’s confident they can raise that amount and noted a fund has been set up at Regions Bank in Linton.
