TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: The Terre Haute Police Department has identified the man who died in a car vs motorcycle crash on Wabash Avenue near the entrance of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
According to THPD Sgt. Dale Blunk, 20-year-old Mason Carter of Terre Haute died as a result of his injuries from the crash.
Sgt. Blunk said there are no infractions or charges related to the crash at this time.
A crash report indicates the driver of another motorcycle who had been travelling with Carter told police they were going 60 mph when Carter crashed head-on into a car that was turning left into the entrance of the college.
Original: A car vs motorcycle crash has left one person dead and caused law enforcement to shut down a section of Wabash Avenue as crews work to investigate.
According to Terre Haute Police Lieutenant Michael Ellerman, the crash occurred on Wabash Avenue near the entrance of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at approximately 12:43 p.m.
Ellerman confirmed that the driver of the motorcycle did not survive the incident, and said the identity is being withheld pending the notification the driver’s family.
Indiana State Police are assisting THPD at the scene as reconstruction crews investigate how the crash occurred.
A portion of Wabash Avenue between S.R. 46 and Hunt Road has been closed down as a result. Drivers are asked to avoid the area as the roadway is expected to be closed for several hours.
Lt. Ellerman said more information will be released as the investigation permits.
Update: The Terre Haute Police Department has confirmed that as of 6 p.m. the roadway is now back open following their reconstruction process.
