TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Catholic Charities Terre Haute is celebrating after receiving a surprise donation from Meijer in the form of $70,000.
According to Catholic Charities Community Engagement Coordinator Brittany Earl, the funds are part of a larger $2M donation the Meijer company announced would go toward 30 foodbank partners across the Midwest.
Terre Haute’s foodbank was one of five Indiana-based food banks to receive a donation.
“We recognize the vital role food banks play in addressing hunger and are proud to stand
alongside our partners to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing food
insecurity,” said Rick Keyes, President & CEO of Meijer. “We know there is an elevated
need in many of our communities, and we want to do our part to help feed our hungry
neighbors.”
“We are extremely grateful for Meijer’s generous support through this $70,000 gift,” said
John Etling, Agency Director, Catholic Charities of Terre Haute. “Food insecurity in our
service area continues to be some of the highest in the state. Partners like Meijer make a
huge impact on our ability to provide a reliable source of nutritious food.”
Catholic Charities will hold a check presentation for this donation on Friday at their foodbank located at 430 N 14th 1/2 Street. For more information about Catholic Charities Terre Haute, visit their website here.
