TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Preparations were underway Wednesday along Wabash Avenue ahead of Thursday’s Downtown Hoopsfest.
The downtown festivities will lead up to the grand opening of the Larry Bird Museum. Crews erected a stage on the roadway where Larry Bird is scheduled to speak along with others during a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
In addition to the speeches, Hoopsfest will feature activities such as a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, food trucks, and more.
Josh Alsip with Downtown Terre Haute encourages everyone to come out for the event.
“All of this is open to the public, and we really encourage you to come downtown, especially now that school is out,” Alsip said. “Kids can come, enjoy the day for a few hours here in historic downtown Terre Haute.”
Hoops Fest will run from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Thursday on Wabash Avenue just east of 7th Street.
