TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Officials broke ground Wednesday on new apartments in Terre Haute.
The apartments will be on North 4th Street near Union Hospital and just north of downtown Terre Haute. River Valley Apartments will include four housing units providing 40 apartments. They’ll be for low-income, rent-restricted renters.
Rodger Brown, President of New Directions Housing Corporation, explained each apartment will have two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
“These are about 1,000 square feet. Full kitchens, full bath,” Brown said. “It’s like market-rate housing, built like market-rate housing, except the rents are lower.
Brown said there will also be a clubhouse with laundry and exercise rooms, management offices, a community room and a playground for children.
Brown added, work on the project is expected to start this month and take about a year to develop.
