VERMILLION, FOUNTAIN, PARKE COUNTIES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Starting on July 25, INDOT has announced they will be working on chip sealing on U.S. 36 and later State Road 32 if weather permits.
Crews will be working on these roads starting at the Indiana and Illinois state line and going all the way through to Rockville. Crews will be placing message boards at each end of the project to alert those travelling on the roadways. Work will be completed under lane closures or full closure in most if not all locations being worked on to prevent damage to vehicles and roadways.
Chip sealing is one of the most cost effective ways to extend the service life of the roadway. Its used across the state of Indiana and saves and estimated six to 14 dollars in taxpayer funds for every dollar invested.
On August 5, fog sealing and pavement markers will be placed on U.S. 36 and chip sealing will begin on State Road 32. August 8, State Road 32 will begin their fog sealing and pavement marker placement.
Work is expected to be finished by mid to late August weather permitting and is subject to change. INDOT recommends finding alternate routes during the repairs and asks people to be mindful driving through work zones.
