TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute Police Department is set to add another social worker after just a little over a year from adding its first.
Current social worker Jarom Hawker said the need for growth was there after receiving over 200 referrals since being hired. He said having an additional person to help deal with all of the follow-ups and day-to-day operations will help out tremendously.
Hawker said even with this addition he is always looking to grow the program by applying for grants and learning from others that have similar programs.
He said knowing that the community will now how more help and recovery resources brings him joy.
“People are the biggest component of this and knowing that they have someone who genuinely wants to help and who will genuinely work with them and for them,” said Hawker.
The new social worker is planned to start in January.
