TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Tuesday afternoon the United Way of the Wabash Valley and the City of Terre Haute awarded $1,500,000 to 26 local businesses.
These businesses applied and were accepted for grants ranging from 10 to 100 thousand dollars.
The majority of the recipients will use the funds for general upgrades and expansions for their business.
Executive director of the United Way of the Wabash Valley Abby Desboro said that these small and local businesses are the backbone of our community.
“These small businesses employ a lot of individuals, help create jobs, community, and invest back in our own community,” said Desboro. “We want to be able to invest in them and be able to grow and expand their businesses to be able to create themselves a new tomorrow and a longer-term future that is prosperous.”
These businesses were chosen through data collected by community volunteers who did multiple studies, along with how their proposed changes would positively impact the community.
