TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— In an effort to add more affordable housing options to Terre Haute, the Next Step Foundation received a grant for $2,500,000.
This grant comes from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) in an effort to create transitional housing for members of the community in recovery from substance use disorder.
“The City of Terre Haute has been an instrumental partner in helping us to build our newest facility for pregnant and parenting women and with this IHCDA funding, we can now provide transitional housing units for those in early recovery that need affordable housing and ongoing services to assist in their recovery journey,” said Dana Simons, Executive Director of the Next Step Foundation. “Safe and affordable housing combined with ongoing support services is a critical step toward sustainable recovery, and we’re excited to expand our impact in Terre Haute.”
The Next Step Foundation is a faith-based nonprofit located in the area of Farrington Grove. They plan to use the funding received in conjunction with Thompson Thrift to expand its housing options. Some of the plans for this are constructing duplex homes on some of the lots owned by the foundation and buying and fixing up apartments near the main campus.
