TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Wabash Valley Road Runners encouraged the public to hit the ground running, quite literally, in 2025.
Dozens gathered in Deming Park just 12 hours after the New Year’s Eve ball drop sent us into 2025. Organizer Adam Pomfret says that Road Runners events continue to grow.
“This year and last year we kind of saw a rebound from COVID, so it’s been nice to see a larger group involvement,” Pomfret said. “Especially with the down years of COVID it’s been exciting to see the club grow.”
Despite the cold temperatures, runner Pamela Malone says she could not think of a better way to start the new year.
“Starting off the new year with the Wabash Valley Road Runners and this annual run really is special,” Malone said. “The community here really sets the tone, they’re inclusive, they welcome all paces and faces, and I really just love being part of this community. It is a great way to start out the new year.”
Pomfret says the New Year’s Day Run kicks off year number 51 for the Road Runners, but there is still much more to come.
“Today’s run and our other group runs are free to the public,” Pomfret said. “We do have a club membership if you would like to join the club. It’s a very affordable way of exercising, being a walker or a runner, and we provide coaching and a fun group environment.”
