TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Indiana State Police Putnamville Post said it did not see many crashes during the winter storm.
ISP Putnamville Post PIO Sergeant Matt Ames said overall activity in the district was pretty low. He said troopers responded to 20 slide-offs, about 15 property damage accidents and two accidents with injuries.
As road conditions improve, Sgt. Ames said the next thing drivers need to kep in mind is the extreme cold.
“Now we’re expecting the the temperatures to really dip down. We encourage all motorists to make sure that you have at least a half tank of gas. Make sure you have an extra blanket, extra gloves and a jacket with you, so that way in case you do become disabled or you have to sit for a while where there’s an accident, you can stay warm. Make sure you have your cell phone with you too,” said Sgt. Ames.
He said during the winter storm, many people stayed off the roadways and added that those who were out did a good job of slowing down and paying attention.
