The event will include a read-aloud session of the book โMartinโs Big Wordsโ by Doreen Rappaport with special guest reader Mayor Sakbun.
โDr. Kingโs legacy teaches us the importance of community and understanding,โ said Sakbun. โI am honored to support this event, which brings families together to reflect on his message and inspire the next generation.โ
The event aims to educate and inspire children with Dr.Kingโs message of equality. After the reading children will be treated to an activity where they will be able to craft a collage or bookmark. Kids will also be given a free childrenโs book related to the Civil Rights Movement while supplies last, to take home with them as a keepsake. The event will be free and open to the public.
โThis story hour is a wonderful opportunity for children to learn about Dr. Kingโs vision and how his work continues to influence our world today,โ said Anne-Therese Ryan, Director of the Terre Haute Human Relations Commission. โWeโre thrilled to partner with the Vigo County Public Library to make this event both educational and enjoyable for the community.โ
