TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Two individuals have been arrested after they allegedly physically and mentally abused an 11-year-old child, according to the Terre Haute Police Department (THPD).
According to a Facebook post from THPD, Melinda Hoke, 35, of Terre Haute, and Jonathon Marion, 36, of Terre Haute, were arrested on January 28, for charges of neglect of a dependent resulting in injury.
THPD began an investigation into Marion and Hoke, after individuals in the community reported suspected child abuse through a tip line available for law enforcement and the Department of Child Services (DCS), in November of 2024.
The investigation by THPD, DCS and the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office found that “an 11-year-old child had been subjected to prolonged physical and mental abuse by their caregivers,” according to THPD.
“This case is a prime example of the critical role our community plays in safeguarding our children. Without the courage of those who spoke up, this child along with the four others removed from this household might still be in a dangerous situation,” said THPD.
