TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— After reaching over $100 million in assets, the Wabash Valley Community Foundation has said they plan to restructure the way they give out competitive grants.
“This is a significant part of celebrating our growth in assets,” explained Beth Tevlin, President & CEO of the Wabash Valley Community Foundation. “We want to ensure that the grants provided by our donors’ generosity create meaningful and lasting impact. Therefore, it is an important time to review our procedures, compare them with those of our peers, and determine what changes we can make to enhance the grants the Community Foundation awards.”
The process of reviewing will take place over the rest of 2025 and the new restructured system is set to be put into place starting the Spring cycle in 2026. While the process is being reviewed grants will still be given out in Clay and Sullivan County but will be paused in Vigo County. This however will not affect any grants or scholarships for Vigo County that are not competitive.
The restructuring will be done in relation to the standards set up in the National Standards Accreditation Program for community foundations directed by the Community Foundation National Standards Board and the Council on Foundations. The review will be done by Tevlin along with the Community Foundation’s Program Director Kelli Miller, other community foundation staff, and the Community Foundation’s board of directors.
The restructuring is also in response to the increase in resources that are anticipated following the completion of Lilly Endowment Inc.’s GIFT VIII initiative and the grants available from it. If the initiative’s goal is met, this will generate an additional $200,000 annually in extra grants. Those that are interested in helping Clay, Sullivan, or Vigo County reach this initiative goal can contact the community foundation at 812-232-2234.
