VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Tuesday morning students and staff at Saint Mary-Of-The-Woods headed to the phones to try and raise money for the school.
Over the past 10 years, Woods Giving Day has raised 1.7 million dollars for the Woods Fund which goes towards all programs and operations at the university. With this year being its 10th anniversary, they proposed a challenge to all of its alumni and supporters to raise 1 million dollars this year alone.
Its Vice President for Advancement Catherine Saunders said words cannot describe how grateful they are for all of the support they have received as they are well on pace to reach this goal.
“It really touches our heart to see that when we put this kind of challenge out there, it makes us feel so good that so many people rallied behind what we are asking them to do, and it tells us that they really care about our students and the future of Saint Mary-Of-The-Woods College,” said Saunders.
Junior Griffin Olson said that he loves connecting with the school’s alumnus.
“Being able to inform them about what we have accomplished in my 3 years and our vision of where we are going along with seeing their vision for the school as well,” said Olson. “It has been an awesome and rewarding experience, for sure.”
Other students said that this experience has motivated them to want to give back to the university once they eventually become alumni.
“I have really loved my experience so far here like the people, community, and everything about being here would be a cool thing to invest in,” said freshman Claire Trenshaw.
