VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Tuesday afternoon, Vincennes Animal Shelter along with numerous other animal rescues took in dozens of dogs from a property in Sims, Illinois after a report of a hoarding situation.
The Vincennes Animal Shelter initially took in 22 dogs; however, they moved seven of them to another rescue. Shelter Director Leah Reagan said the vast majority of these dogs have severe medical issues she says were caused by improper care and unhygienic conditions.
She said the medical costs for these dogs is going to be high.
“We expect to have a lot more medical issues that we are going to need to fundraise to be able to treat all of these medical needs,” said Reagan.
The shelter’s eventual goal is to get these dogs adopted. Assistant Director Angie Stanley said that dogs brought up in these conditions deserve to know what it feels like to be properly taken care of and loved.
“Come out, visit, and spend time with them,” said Stanley. “They need that, that is what they need right now is people to just sit, pet them, and love on them. Show them that there is more than what they had.”
