TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — After over 20 dogs were allegedly found on a property in Sims, Illinois, some may be wondering about local animal ordinances here in Terre Haute.
Assistant Director of the Terre Haute Code Enforcement, Trevor Dreher said city residents are allowed to have up to six dogs or cats, or any combination of the two totaling six. According to Terre Haute’s city code, having more than six would require a kennel licenses.
“First we try to make contact with the owners see what the situation is you know if there’s any way we can help out the immediate reaction is not just to take away all their animals but to see what we can do to reduce the size of that population and find good homes for the animals,” said Dreher.
Dreher said anyone can report animal hoarding to the code enforcement and they will go and assess the situation. You can contact them by calling 812-244-2530 or by simply dialing 3-1-1.
