TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Ivy Tech in Terre Haute was the host to more than 200 8th graders in the Vigo County School Corporation on Friday.
This gave students the opportunity to get an in depth look at 8 different programs within the School of Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applied Science. The event allowed students to get hands-on experience in every program along with sharing careers that are tied with them.
Its Agriculture Program Chair Karson Harris hopes this will light a spark that will lead these students down a career pathway.
“When you get to see the kids in action doing hands-on activities and you see the light bulb go off in their eyes as it clicks and you see the pure excitement and joy, as an educator, that is what it is all about,” said Harris. “That is our goal is to motivate and inspire young individuals to choose these career paths are everything to us as instructors here at the college.”
Harris said this is the perfect time for these students to do this as they are about to select what pathway they will be pursuing in high school.
