TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Improvements are coming to local parks around Terre Haute, just in time for the warmer weather to move in.
The Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department will use revenue from the new Terre Haute Casino Resort to fund several projects as Mayor Brandon Sakbun focuses on revitalizing city parks.
Those projects include expanding the Booker T. Washington playground at Washington Park. Also, the city plans to expand a playground and resurface tennis courts at Collett Park. Deming Park’s playground will get a new surface as well.
Assistant Superintendent of the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department, Kilie Smith, said the goal is to get more families out and enjoying the local parks.
“We have a ton of parks more than I think most people realize in this city and you know what these revitalization projects I think it’s going to get more and more people out to their local community park whether it’s a small pocket park or one of our larger parks like Deming, Rea, and Fairbanks,” said Smith.
Smith said resurfacing projects will start this spring and playground additions will be completed this fall, if not sooner.
