GIBSON COUNTY, Ind. (WTOW/WAWV) —The National Weather Service says two EF-2 tornados hit Gibson County, early Saturday morning. They touched down near Somerville and Oakland City.
Our sister station in Evansville reported that Oakland City Mayor James Deffendall said the first call they received was around 3 a.m. for about six people trapped in a trailer during the tornado.
Fire officials say extensive damage was done to several homes and storefronts in the city. They say several gas leaks were also reported Saturday.
Officials say the Red Cross has been helping with temporary housing, mental health resources, clothing, clean-up kits, hygiene kits and more.
Below are videos of the storm and photos of the damage caused, as well as a downed storm siren.
