TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — St. Patrick’s Day is Monday, and many celebrations were held across the Wabash Valley this past weekend.
Saint Patrick School of the Terre Haute Deanery kicked off the weekend hosting their 22nd annual Irish Dash featuring a 5k race, 5k walk, and a one-mile fun run.
All of the proceeds from the event will support Saint Patrick students on their 8th grade field trip to Washington D.C.
“Ever since we were young, we’ve been wanting to see our countries monuments,” said Erica Conley, a student at Saint Patrick. “We’re excited to learn and see the things that we’ve been learning about.”
Also, this weekend, hundreds of residents gather along Ohio Street for the annual Saint Patrick’s Day parade.
People of all ages participate in the parade. Plus, lots of vehicles and floats were decked out for the holiday.
Terre Haute resident, Ross Poland said this parade has been a long-standing tradition for his family.
“We’ve been coming out for the parade ever since we started a family here,” said Poland. “Just nice to have a sense of community where everybody can get out here and have a good time. Just experience something together it’s a really fun time.”
The celebrations wrapped up on Saturday night with the 46th annual adult Saint Patrick’s Day party at Saint Patrick School of the Terre Haute Deanery.
All of those proceeds will help benefit the athletic programs.
