VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) โ The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced a new traffic pattern that will affect the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-70 near Terre Haute.
Beginning on or after Saturday, March 29, crews will move the left eastbound lane of I-70 across the median into the westbound lane. The right eastbound lane will then be moved to the eastbound shoulder and both of the westbound lanes will move towards the westbound shoulder while this pattern is in place, according to INDOT.
These shifts will be between U.S. 41 and Thompson Ditch, just west of Sidenbender Road (25th Street). The westbound lanes will also briefly shift into the median over Sidenbender Road, then to the shoulder at Thompson Ditch until reaching U.S. 41.
Some night-time lane closures will also be in effect while crews change the traffic pattern.
INDOT said the purpose of these changes are for the next phase of the bridge replacement work over 7th Street and the CSX railroad.
The new traffic pattern is expected to last a few months, but INDOT said the work is weather-dependent and is subject to change.
