TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO-WAWV) — Hundreds of race car drivers and racing fans were at the Wabash Valley Dragway at the Vigo County Fairgrounds for street legal night.
There was grudge match racing with flash light start to open the racing season. Cars, trucks and motorcycles all took turns going down the 1/8 mile track.
The operator of the track says this event was to give the community an opportunity he didn’t have when he was younger in a safe environment.
“I never had the opportunity to come to an actual racetrack and I’m trying to give the opportunity to the kids to have a place to ride safely rather than do it out in the street. What they Are doing the streets? We’re trying to get them to bring it to the track we’re safer we got EMTs so we got safety rules and regulations,” said Freddy Melecio, operator Wabash Valley Dragway.
The track plans to have fun events like this about every month.
