VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)โ Fritzner Antoine, who was arrested in June of 2023 for the murder of his daughter, has learned his sentence.
According to the Knox County Prosecutorโs Office Facebook Page, Antoine was sentenced Monday to 60 years in prison. According to court records, on February 2, 2025, Antoine was brought in by the Knox County Sheriffโs Department for a pretrial, and the Defense Counsel advised that the Defendant wished to enter a Plea of Guilty. A change of plea and sentencing was scheduled for March 31, 2025, that ended with Prosecutor Dirk Carnahan asking Circuit Court Judge Monica Gilmore for a 60-year sentence that was granted. Carnahan stated that their was no satisfaction though in the courtโs ruling.
โMembers of the victimโs family were here today,โ said Carnahan. โ60 years or 600 years doesnโt change their lives. Seeing the womanโs husband, her mother, and other family members today helped make it clear what the limits of our system are. We try every single day to make a difference, but sometimes, there really isnโt any justice or closure. All that we can do is keep trying to do what is right, keep trying to make a difference, and be willing to believe that sometimes what we do matters โ even when it doesnโt seem to.โ
The murder occurred on June 24, 2023, where members of the Vincennes Police Department responded to a call around 7 a.m. at the 1400 block of Audubon Road on reports of a woman bleeding from stab wounds. When police reached the scene, 30-year-old Sterline Antoine Joseph was pronounced dead. Following the investigation, her father, who had recently moved in with her from Haiti, was arrested. Antoine later confessed to the murder in an interview with police.
According to the probable cause affidavit, โAntoine stated that Victim 1 โhumiliatedโ him and continually left her children with him. Antoine stated that he selected a โgoldโ โtable knifeโ from near the sink in the residence. Antoine stated that he intended to โflogโ Victim 1 for being disrespectful to him, he had the knife in his hand, so he โdid itโ.โ
Police said when they told Antoine that his daughter had died and he was under arrest for murder, he responded, โyes, I agree.โ
