Severe storm damage in the Wabash Valley
Chief Meteorologist Jesse Walker has said that New Goshen was one of several areas that was under a tornado warning this evening, and over 1,000 are still without power. Vigo County Sheriffโs Department has put out a warning to avoid the New Goshen area due to first responders assisting residents and assessing storm damage. According to one of our people in New Goshen, police are currently going door to door to check on residents. It was also noted that trees are down in the area. They state that the area is not safe due to downed powerlines and other debris.
Near the state line, two semis were knocked onto their side. These are early damage reports coming through the Wabash Valley. Some video from these scenes are below.
Over 1,000 without power in New Goshen
According to Duke Energy, there are currently over 1,000 people without power in the New Goshen area. The cause is currently unknown. WTWO will update if any new information becomes available.
Tornado Warnings reach Indiana
Tornado warnings are working their way through Illinois and are now popping up in Indiana. The counties of Indiana currently under a warning are:
- Daviess
- Greene
- Knox
- Sullivan

Fairbanks Fire Department open as a storm shelter
According to a Facebook Post on the Fairbanks Volunteer Fire Department Facebook group, the department will have personnel at the station from 4 p.m. to midnight. The department will have its doors open to the public for those requiring shelter during the dangerous weather.
Vigo County placed on Tornado Watch until 11 p.m.
The National Weather Service has placed into effect a tornado watch until 11 p.m. Wednesday evening in Indiana. The watch includes a large portion of Indiana including the counties of:

Vigo County EMA declares travel advisory until 5 p.m. Thursday
According to a news release from the Vigo County Emergency Management Agency, the Vigo County Commissioners have declared a travel advisory beginning Wednesday at 5 p.m. for 24 hours. This is due to heavy rain equaling one to three inches and damaging winds that could possibly uproot trees and powerlines. The release mentions that Saturday also has an expected rainfall of four to six inches, which could lead to flooding throughout the Wabash Valley.
INDOT crews preparing for extreme weather
According to the Public Relations Director of the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Crews are currently out and preparing for dangerous incoming weather and potential flooding in the southwest of Indiana. One such way they are doing this is by assisting the Department of Homeland Security and the National Guard in filling sandbags. INDOT stated that they have sandbag machines at many of their sub districts, and if you are in need of one, you are encouraged to contact the Department of Homeland Security.
Sullivan County EMA announces storm shelter locations
According to the Director of Sullivan County EMA, Multiple locations in Sullivan County are opening up from 4 p.m. until the storm passes to act as storm shelters during the severe weather. More are supposed to be announced as they are activated, and we will attempt to update this list as the night goes on. The places listed are:

- First Christian in Sullivan
- Shelburn School
- First Baptist in Shelburn
- First Baptist in Hymera
- Hymera Legion
- Christian Church and New Hope Church in Carlisle
- both Thunderbird Fire Departments in and Shelburn
- Merom Bluff Church
- Fairbanks Fire Department
- Fairbanks Community Center
- United Methodist Church in Farmersburg
- Ebenezer Church in Shelburn.
