SHOALS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)โ A woman from Terre Haute is facing 11 charges after being pulled over on April 1.
According to court documents, a member of the Shoals Police Department clocked a white Dodge Grand Caravan going 66 mph in a 40 mph zone just before 4:30 p.m. in Shoals, Indiana. The officer attempted to then make a traffic stop, but the vehicle was slow to stop for the officer. The vehicle finally pulled over, and he was told to pull into the nearby RJโs gas station for safety. The officer noted in the Probable Cause Affidavit (PCA) that when he first approached the vehicle, the driver had partially opened her door, and a strong scent of marijuana was noticed.
Once the vehicle entered the parking lot, members of the Martin County Sheriffโs Department arrived on the scene. According to the PCA, the officer informed the driver, later identified as 40-year-old Andrea Randall of Terre Haute, why she had been pulled over and the notice of the marijuana. According to the PCA, while the officer was speaking with Randall, he noticed the presence of five juveniles in the back seat, ages nine to fourteen.
When officers asked the passenger of the vehicle, later identified as 33-year-old Antwane Randall of Terre Haute, to exit the vehicle, Andrea stated that there was a โbluntโ in the car that she had been smoking during the time the traffic stop had occurred. The officer then stated that due to the overwhelming odor, he believed there to be more than just that amount of marijuana in the vehicle. According to court documents, Andrea then stated there was more before handing the officers a plastic bag from between the front seats that appeared to contain marijuana.
Officers then proceeded to check both Andrea and the vehicle and located another bag under the passenger seat of the vehicle that was field-tested as cocaine. They also found a red straw containing cocaine residue in the back portion of the driver seat. Several hand-rolled cigarettes filled with marijuana were also located in the vehicle. The Department of Child Services was contacted to take custody of the children.
According to the Martin County Sheriffโs Office Dispatch records, Andrea Randall was arrested and charged with five counts of neglect of a dependent, operating while intoxicated with a passenger under 16, possession of cocaine, operating while intoxicated-endangerment, operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia. Antwane Randall was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia. Both are being held on a $15,000 bond with 10% allowed.
