TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Thursday, a scary sight at the Terre Haute Regional Airport left a plane upside down on the runway.
Officials said the aircraft crashed at approximately 1:50 p.m. afternoon while attempting to land at the airport.
The plane belonged to the Tri-State Warbird Museum in Ohio, and was on its way to participate in an airshow in Peru, Illinois.
President of the Museum, David O’Maley, said both the passenger and pilot are in good condition and went on to say, “Airplanes and sheet metal can be replaced. The most important thing is that they are both here to talk to us about it.”
Craig Mashino, Executive Director of the Terre Haute Regional Airport, also provided WTWO/WAWV with an update and said, “Today’s goal is recovering the aircraft from the site so that we can re-open the runway today. The other runway is open.”
Mashino said the investigation has now been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In a statement, the airport said the FAA is reviewing the aircraft conditions, the airfield and all personnel involved. They said an investigation of this nature may take several months.
