TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Tuesday evening, dozens of volunteers cleaned and tagged thousands of rubber ducks for Terre Haute Catholic Charities’ eighth annual Rubber Duck Regatta.
15,000 ducks were prepared for the event, which is scheduled for Friday, July 4 at Fairbanks Park. Thousands of yellow rubber ducks will take their chance at being the lucky duck, with the winner receiving $10,000 and the chance at $1,000,000.
Proceeds from the event will go towards the fight against hunger, homelessness and financial insecurity in west central Indiana.
“We know that our neighbors need the services that Catholic Charities provides more than ever. So, those programs take volunteers, they take staff and they also take funding for us to be able to have those. So, these fundraisers like the Duck Regatta are just absolutely critical right now as we know the need in our community grows,” Development Manager Jessica Murphy said.
Ducks are also still available for adoption. A list of locations where you can still adopt is on the website.
