TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A trial date has been set for the man accused of killing a co-worker at Candlewood Suites in downtown Terre Haute.
Back in May, officers with the Terre Haute Police Department were dispatched to the Candlewood Suites Hotel after receiving a 911 call about shots fired on the 5th floor. Upon entering the 5th floor, bystanders showed officers to a room, where they found the door propped open. When officers entered, they found a male body lying on the floor with what appeared to be several gunshot wounds, according to court documents.
The Probable Cause Affidavit (PCA) stated that officers then secured the scene and learned that the occupants of the room were staying at the hotel along with a group of laborers with Champion Contractors visiting for work from out of town. Officers later discovered that 30-year-old Wilson Chavez and the victim, Jamie Munoz, 32, of Mexico, were the sole occupants of the room.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, Wilson Chavez is not a US citizen. The department stated that Chavez is in the country illegally.
Wilson was charged with murder, criminal recklessness, and unlawful possession of a handgun, according to Terre Haute Police Department Lt. Justin Sears.
After appearing in Vigo County Superior Court 1, Monday, June 30, for a review hearing, a trial date for Chavez has been set for August 11, according to the Vigo County Clerk’s Office.
