TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Second Missionary Baptist Church hosted their annual Friends and Family Day, and the area was bursting with people.
At the event, the church had 175 backpacks to give away. Children also could fill their backpacks with school supplies. Other activities at the event included games and a food pantry. The pantry had bananas, apples, fruit snacks, cookies, and more.
The church also grilled hamburgers and hotdogs and served ice cream for dessert. People danced to the music, enjoying the free fun. All of the activities and food were completely free, inviting people to come and just be themselves.
“There are so many people in this particular community that need help, they need prayer, they need school supplies, so we are here to go outside of four walls and be able to help anybody that needs it. It’s all free,” said Pastor James Barleston.
Leaders of the church hope this event continues to grow and be a light for the local community.
