TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— In recognition of Hunger Action Month in September, Dollar General is highlighting its contributions to addressing food insecurity in the state.
Dollar General made this commitment through its partnership with Feeding America, the United States’ largest hunger-relief organization. Through the first seven months of 2025, more than 950,000 pounds of food were donated to food banks partnered with Feeding America. One such food bank was the Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank.
“With more than 47 million people in the U.S. currently unsure where their next meal will come from, especially in rural communities with a lack of retail options, we are proud to partner with Feeding America and their affiliated partners across the country to help those who may need it most, ” Denine Torr, Dollar General’s vice president of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy. “Leveraging our store and distribution center footprint, we are uniquely positioned to support our hometowns by addressing food insecurity and increasing access to nutritious food. Through our continued partnership with Feeding America, we’re working together to support our neighbors, customers, and communities—one meal at a time.”
In July, Dollar General celebrated its 5th year of partnering with Feeding America. Dollar General celebrated the milestone with an additional donation of $1,000,000. Since starting the partnership in 2019, Dollar General has provided more than $5,000,000 and more than 65,000,000 meals through in-kind food donations across the United States. The Company also currently serves nearly 45% of U.S. counties through product donations to Feeding America.
According to the news release, approximately 75% of the United States population lives within five miles of a Dollar General store. Due to this, the company claims it feels uniquely positioned to help address food insecurity and provide access to affordable, healthier food options.
