VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) —UPDATE: The identity of the deceased individual from Saturday night’s crash was 42-year-old Scott Ricketts, according to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department.
One person has died following a head-on collision involving an alleged drunk driver on State Road 63 in Vigo County.
On Saturday, just before 11:30 p.m. deputies were advised of a wrong way driver, traveling southbound in northbound lanes of SR 63 in Vermillion County.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, as the driver continued southbound a deputy’s vehicle and a West Terre Haute Police vehicle were almost struck by the driver.
Authorities say the driver then collided head on with a pickup truck traveling northbound on SR 63 near the intersection of Barnhardt Road.
The driver of the wrong way vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol is considered to have played a factor in the accident.
Two other occupants were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
State Road 63 was closed for multiple hours for investigation and clean-up.
