KNOX CO., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— United Way of Knox County is getting ready for their Great Bowls of Fire chili cookoff on Saturday, November 1st and the whole community is invited.
There will be twenty teams competing at this cookoff for the People’s Choice award, all while raising money for the United Way of Knox County. The money will go back to the United Way of Knox County to help them support the thirty programs and agencies they are partnered with.
Executive Director of the United Way of Knox County Scott Charleston mentioned that, besides the chili, there will be here will also be live music, a beer garden, and many more things, including something special they added for this year.
“We’re going to have a forty-five-foot Ferris Wheel that’s going to be overlooking the water and the monument,” Charleston said. “We just felt like with any events you’ve always got to, you know, spice it up a little bit. As we do for chili cookoffs, and we thought a Ferris Wheel and keeping it very inexpensive to ride. We’re going to charge one dollar, and we just felt like that was a way to really get the community involved.”
Charleston also mentioned that people will also get to learn about the United Way of Knox County and what they do for Knox County, while getting to enjoy 20 different chilis.
“What we really like to see is just to educate people on the importance of volunteering and giving back to their community,” Charleston said. “Even though you get to come and have a great day and support what we’re doing at United Way and all of our agencies, it gets you involved. It educates you. It lets you know what the United Way is doing. Our board members are going to be there, we’re going to be there, community leaders, and it’s just a great way to interact, have a great day, and really just encourage everything that we’re doing here in Knox County.”
There is a five-dollar entry fee, but that gets you the chance to sample all 20 different chilis while you’re at the event. The Ferris Wheel will cost one dollar to ride. The Great Bowls of Fire chili cookoff will take place on Saturday, Nov. 1st, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and it will be located at Patrick Henry Square in downtown Vincennes, Ind, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
