PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The search for a missing woman in Putnam County continues as police search fields, ponds and wooded areas near her home, which was engulfed in flames the night after her family last spoke to her.
46-year-old Britney Gard was reported missing after local fire departments responded to a structure fire at her home on October 1. Gard was not at home during the fire, and since then family and friends haven’t been able to make contact with her.
The family said the last time they had contact with Gard was the night prior to the fire, September 30.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said they have been using several local, state and federal investigative assets to assist locating Gard.
The Civil Air Patrol, along with an all-volunteer Putnam County Community Response Team, has searched the farm fields and wooded areas near Gard’s home. This included searching 75 acres of corn field row by row.
The sheriff’s office said drones have been used to the search the area since the night of the fire.
Conservation Officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources have also searched the pond at Gard’s home and other surrounding bodies of water.
Despite all of these efforts, Gard still hasn’t been located.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said since this is an active investigation, no other information about the fire at Gard’s home or any speculation on her whereabouts or condition will not be released at this time.
The Sheriff’s Office does ask that anyone with any information that may help in their investigation to contact them.
“As the Sheriff of Putnam County, I ask that you keep Ms. Gard’s family, our investigators, and other emergency personnel in your prayers,” said Sheriff Jerrod E. Baugh. “These extended cases and concern for the wellbeing of our missing resident can take a toll on everyone involved in attempting to locate Britney Gard.”
