TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Two local high school marching bands are headed to the state championship in Indianapolis.
Terre Haute South and Terre Haute North will be competing in the ISSMA Marching Band State Finals Saturday, October 25, at Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis. Both teams have put in numerous hours of hard work to be able to participate. The band directors for each team have chosen a theme for the students’ performances.
South’s performance is called the Marching Dead, featuring songs from The Walking Dead TV show, Billie Eilish, and My Chemical Romance. North’s performance is titled the Underdog, featuring songs from the Rocky movies.
“We’ve had a very good season. We’ve won several contests. We’ve won several music, and general effect, and visual awards, and the kids are just having a great great year,” Terre Haute South Band Director Tim Murphy said.
“I would say the energy level is really really high. These kids are very excited again to be back in the finals. They’re very hungry. A lot of mixed emotions, but good emotions all around,” Terre Haute North Band Director Christopher Pinto said.
WTWO wishes both high schools the best of luck in the state marching band championship.
