PARIS, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases, all schools in Paris Union School District 95 in Illinois will close through Thanksgiving break, according to a text alert sent to parents Friday.
“This has been a difficult decision to make,” the text message said. “For the safety of our students and staff we are closing the school to stop the spread of COVID-19.”
Paris Cooperative High School will remain open. A separate text regarding the high school read in part, “Please help keep school open,” adamantly insisting students wear masks and adding, “Neck gators and handkerchiefs are no longer permitted per new guidelines.”
The District 95 students will continue with remote learning while the buildings are closed. A time from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday was scheduled for parents to pick up required materials in front of many of the schools. Texts also provided information for how to apply for access to chromebooks at each different school.
Carolyn Wenz Elementary School was the first area school to alert parents. Soon, all others followed suit.
According to the alert, the Edgar County Health Department will be notifying families Friday evening of additional contact tracing taking place.
