TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute City Council on Thursday put off a definitive vote on a rezoning action that would allow a woman’s rehab facility to be constructed on 6th St., agreeing to revisit the matter at its next meeting in order to gather more information.
The council heard from women who touted the benefits of rehab centers as well as residents in the area, which contains a number of historic homes, who didn’t want the facility in their neighborhood.
After the meeting, Earl Elliott, the new president of the City Council, said the focus will be on the demand for the service in the area. “There are people in the medical profession I’ll reach out to,” he said, adding that the residents’ argument is that “the location is not the right fit. They understand the need and potential, but not in that area — it’s more residential and less business.”
