WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A vehicle left on the side of the road in West Terre Haute led Indiana State Police to the discovery of multiple stolen guns.
A state trooper noticed the vehicle partially in the roadway at State Road 63 and Barnhardt Road. Through the window, he was able to see the guns and a small generator in the back seat.
While the trooper was still investigating the scene, 26-year-old Cody W. Doss of Terre Haute returned to the vehicle with a gas can. It was later determined that he did not have permission from the vehicle’s owner to use it at that time.
According to police, 15 shotguns/rifles, three handguns, a generator and controlled substances were found in the vehicle.
Doss was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, theft of a firearm, drug possession, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and resisting law enforcement. He was transported to the Vigo County Jail where he is currently being held.
Anyone with information regarding stolen guns is encouraged to contact Trooper Brad Fyfe of the Putnamville State Police Post at (800) 225-8576.
