VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased as 60-year-old James Austin of Terre Haute.
Original: A person is dead following a crash between a car and farm equipment in eastern Vigo County Friday morning.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of SR 46 and Donham Street east of Riley, Indiana.
The driver of a farm tractor pulling a disc trailer westbound on SR 46, told police they spotted a passenger car driving toward them at a high speed in the middle of the road.
The tractor reportedly pulled as far to the right as possible and stopped, but the car never slowed and crashed into the disc trailer.
Due to the severity of their injuries, the driver was pronounced dead on the scene by fire personnel.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
