BLOOMFIELD, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Greene County officials have released the name of the teen killed Monday in a
crash
in Bloomfield.
Eighteen-year-old Caleb Schmidt was pronounced dead at the scene following the one-vehicle crash at the intersection of Antioch Road and Martin Road.
Sixteen-year-old Devon Hays was injured in the crash and transported to IU Health in Bloomington.
Counselors gathered at Bloomfield Junior/Senior High School Thursday morning to meet with students and staff dealing with grief. A prayer circle was also planned for noon at the school.
“It is with a great deal of sadness that we share with you that a member of our school family, junior, Caleb Schmidt, passed away as a result of his injuries suffered in a car accident Monday, December 23, 2019,” Superintendent Jeff Gibboney said in a prepared statement. “This is a terrible tragedy for Caleb’s family, our school and our entire community. We have been in contact with Caleb’s family, and we should all respect their need for privacy at this time. Our counselors, administrators and teachers who are members of our team immediately went into action and are providing help for our students and faculty. We are all working together to support the school community at this time.”
